The student leadership elections for Hercules High School have been postponed until August and September of the next 2012-2013 school year. Several issues have been brought to light due to recent events regarding the election process.
The GPA requirement to run for and maintain a leadership position is 2.0 for West Contra Costa Unified School District as a whole, but a GPA of 2.5 is required at HHS. A student requested information regarding the GPA requirement to run for leadership, and made a complaint to the district. Due to this complaint, the election process has been detained as the bylaws and rules regarding the school election process are changed and updated. These changes will allow the election process to be more fair and equitable as a whole.
“The reason we have a 2.5 GPA requirement is that leadership students need to spend multiple hours outside of class,” said HHS Leadership advisor Jessica Steinberg. “So students with a GPA of 2.5 and higher are more able to handle the workload.”
