Health Coordinator Theresa Dade-Boone applies for Alliance for a Healthier Generation grant to benefit the wellness of teachers and staff interested. The grant will be in effect for one year, and during that year teachers and staff have the opportunity to participate in workshops and yoga and are also encouraged to engage in individual activities.

“I have purchased two blood pressure machines, a standing weight scale for staff to come in and check their weight in a confidential setting,” said Boone. “I also have purchased some walking pedometer … for some teachers that have started a group walking in the morning.”
Boone has been organizing workshops, including a nutrition workshop where teachers will be instructed on how to make quick healthy lunches and also get to sample foods as well, to incorporate the grant into teachers’ schedule. Another program that will be offered is a stress management workshop. Boone will also manage teacher and staff health to ensure that they stay healthy.
“It is voluntary so I am not trying to cover all 70 teachers and 40 staff,” Boone said. “I am just really trying to expose them to different things and then everyone can have a chance to participate.”
